RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Wolfpack women were back on the court Wednesday hours after learning they'd finish out the season without legendary coach Kay Yow to guide them.

After practice, several players and their interim coach talked about the impact of Yow’s departure.

“She can take great pride and peace in knowing that she has taught us well<’ said interim coach Stephanie Glance. “She knows our staff and players will represent her spirit.”

For the lady Wolfpack, it's an adjustment knowing Kay Yow won't be, as the players say, in their faces.

“She treats you like she's your mother,” said player Shayla Fields.

But the 'mom' has taught them well.

“To me she is an ideal example of fighting a string battle and showing your faith in god And living to see the glass half full,”  said player Tia Bell.

Wednesday afternoon, as the team practiced for the first time knowing that Kay Yow won't be there for the rest of the season, they set their sights on what needs to be done; that is, this weekend's  opening A.C.C game against Carolina.

“Coach Yow would expect nothing less than for us to be focused on  Carolina and be prepared to play them on Sunday,” said Glance.

In her years of coaching, Kay Yow taught her players that attitude is everything. And now, the people that she taught that to are watching how a basketball legend is living up to her own words.

“She always stays true to who she really is and that's who we always see,’ EXPLAINED Glance. “She's always positive, always at peace, and she just sets an unbelievable example for all of us in the midst of the toughest battle; which is cancer.

And the school says coach Yow has received scores of good wishes and messages of support not only from fans, but from other coaches around the country who all are pulling for her.
